Original Ideas Statement

            Before I start to make my magazine, I have one idea for what I’m going to make my magazine like, I want to make a girls music magazine, similar to something like Top of The Pops, but for a more mature audience. The inspirations for the way I want my magazine to be laid out is going to be taken form the Rolling Stones magazines however I do not yet have an idea for what my magazine is going to be called.

On my front cover, I’m hoping to have either a picture made of girls to form a “girl band” or a lead female on the front; I want to do this because it will entice more girls to buy it as they will think can relate to whoever is on the front of the magazine. Along with this, I want to have matching colour scheme throughout and a consistent font, to keep everything looking professional. I’m hoping to have a variety of stories on the front of the magazine that will relate to different people, therefore gaining a winder audience. I also want on my front cover to have the title placed at the top of the page, I want this big enough to see, but not too big that it takes up the page.

For my contents page I want to contain a main picture, for a main story at the top of the page, and the bottom of the page to show what will be inside the magazine. I’ve also decided to keep these fonts and colours the same, so that it is consistent in style. I want to have different pages that will relate to different topics, but I want the contents to show all the different topics covered in my audience questionnaire, so that it will be relevant to my target audience.

For my double page spread, I’m hoping to do a fashion page instead of an interview; this will then contain a main picture, showing the latest styles. Then I can add different items of clothing around the page, stating where to buy them for the cheapest prices, and along with this, I will have a couple of articles talking about the clothing picked and how and where to go and buy them, as well as how they will stay in fashion for. I’m hoping to use band for this, I can then add to the side of one of the pages, tour dates and a competition that all relate to the same band.

Construction Schedule

            For my magazine, I’m going to start by organising the overall layout of each of the pages, and then working out what spaces are left for different photographs to be placed. I aim to shoot these photographs after the layout of the magazine has been established, I think this will be easier because I will know what genre of images I need and the overall size and orientation of the images. Once my photographs have been placed onto the magazine, I will finish the whole construction of the magazine, by placing all of my text on there. I’m aiming to finish my magazine by the end of February.
